Shorts: This team has a lot of fight in them

By Colette Carr

This Celtic team “has a lot of fight in them” according to Cheyenne Shorts, who believes Celtic’s comeback against Spartans typified their never-say-die mindset.

Speaking to fan media ahead of this weekend’s SWPL Cup derby away to Rangers, the defender was asked about Celtic’s most recent result where a late equaliser saved a point for the Hoops against Spartans. And despite falling behind against the Edinburgh side, she points to their desire to walk away with at least a point and admits it’s all about knowing how to deal with that part of the game.

She said: “It was a great response. It was tough being 2-1 down, but we have the mentality to come back and we could’ve won it. We hit the post two or three times but it’s something you have to fight through, but this team has a lot of fight in them and it was nice to get at least the point.

“Everyone was a little disappointed. Dropping a couple of points was tough but we’ve bounced back well and we have a good enough mentality to know that sometimes it happens - it’s the game and you have to be able to take it, learn and move on from it. We’ve implemented a lot of things that help us to take into this weekend.”

The weekend brings the first Glasgow Derby of the season as the Celts travel to the Rangers Training Centre looking to book their place in the SWPL Cup semi-finals, and while its an occasion she is excited to experience, she knows they have to focus on themselves and not get to swept up.

“I’ve heard about the derbies since I got here, so I’ve been really excited to see what it’s about - I can’t wait.

“We’re focusing on us, but we have a system that works well, so we’ll stick with what works well and hopefully get the result,” she said.
