Semi-final will be about the little details, says Alonso

The big games keep on rolling round for the Celts, but Fran Alonso wouldn’t have it any other way, as he reflects on a big week for the club ahead of this afternoon’s semi-final.

The Hoops face Hibs in the latter stages of the SWPL Cup this afternoon at Forthbank Stadium in Stirling, and the manager says his players are ready to rise to the occasion after a good week of training.

“It’s been very good, there’s been a lot of fight for the spots. Everyone is switched on and knows the importance of the game and how important it is to bounce back after a negative result, so I feel we are ready. It will be a hard battle but I think we are mentally and physically prepared, so hopefully it will be a good game,” he said.

Ahead of kick-off Alonso knows the result may balance on the fine margins, but hopes his side can enjoy what he already sees as a great achievement.

“Its a competition where they are defending the title so I think it will give them a plus. I expect the little details will matter and I think it will be a very even game, but hopefully we can get the best from the game and get to the final which is a dream of ours.

“Being in the semi-finals itself is a massive achievement because to get here we had to beat Rangers and now we are one step away from the final. Getting there would an achievement itself and I’d be delighted but first we have to get through this semi-final,” he said.

Celtic take to the Forthbank Stadium in Stirling on Sunday evening and tickets are priced at just £5 for adults and £2 for concessions and can be bought on the gate.

The stadium is in Springkerse (FK7 7UJ) and has free parking for home and away fans at the stadium however this is limited and shared with users at The Peak facility.

If you can’t make it along in person though, make sure to watch the action unfold live on Scottish Women’s Football’s YouTube channel.
