Match Preview: Celtic eye another three points against Motherwell

By Louise Gould

Celtic FC Women will be in the hunt for three more points when they face Motherwell at the Penny Cars Stadium on Wednesday night.

And you can get your tickets here!

Manager Fran Alonso said his team are aiming for another victory and their first clean sheet of the Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 season.

“We are looking forward to the game against Motherwell,” he said ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

“We have started the league quite well with seven points from three games and it will be very important for us to get three points on Wednesday.”

While the Ghirls are unbeaten going into the fixture, their opponents are yet to win a league game this season and currently sit bottom of the SWPL 1 table.

But Alonso said the squad mustn’t let Motherwell’s position in the league standings have an impact on Wednesday night’s game.

He says he has warned his side they could be punished by the visitors if they begin to think in that way.

“We respect them, and we know they have the weapons to hurt us if we are not at our best,” he said.

“This league is the closest it’s been. You can see the results have been much closer than last season. The teams are better, and the games are defined by less goals.”

The Spaniard said Celtic must stick to the game plan from the outset.

“Hopefully we execute it well and get the three points – which would carry on a fantastic start to the season,” he added.

A victory for Celtic would continue their unbeaten league run, which currently stands at 15 games without a loss.
