Celtic FC Women rang out 2021 in wonderful style as the stormed to a magnificent 7-0 victory over Motherwell at the Penny Cars Stadium.

First half goals from Shen, Liv Chance and Chloe Craig set the Ghirls up well to come out the blocks in the second half where they added to the scoreline with an own goal and strikes from Jacynta, Larisey and Wellings to sign off a historic year in rampant fashion.

Despite creating numerous chances in the opening period, the deadlock was finally broken through Shen just 17 minutes in. Sarah Harkes threaded an inch perfect ball through the middle for the Chinesewoman to run onto and show great composure to tough just round the onrushing Khym Ramsay and slot it into the open net.

And just over ten later, the Hoops were sitting pretty with a two-goal cushion. Wellings did well to keep Maria Olafsdottir Gros’ cross inside the area before it made its way to Chance on the edge of the box, who struck cleanly first time on the 28th, before Craig completed the first half scoring from the spot on the 41st.

The Hoops picked up where they left off with their high intensity start paying off as they made it four within the first minute of the second half. Harkes’ looping corner bounced in off Motherwell’s Murron Cunningham inside the area to put the game to bed early.

But the ruthless Hoops weren’t done yet though. Lovely work down the left from Tegan Bowie and Wellings let the striker cut it back for Jacynta in the middle, who angled her run well to run onto it and steer a lovely strike beyond Ramsay to make it five with only 51 on the clock.

Just minutes after coming on, super sub Larisey made an instant impact and grabbed her fourth of the season. Played in by fellow substitute Izzy Atkinson’s dink, the Canadian rode the pressure of Joanne Addie to nick it just over Ramsay for the sixth.

And their magnificent rout was completed with a very well-deserved goal for Wellings. Larisey turned provider to pick out Wellings in the box, who controlled and unleashed an unstoppable effort high into the net on the 79th minute to ensure the SWPL Cup Champions closed out the year on a high note.

Celtic: Logan, Shorts, Craig, Hayes, Bowie, Chance (Toland), Harkes (McAllister), Olafsdottir Gros (Bartle), Jacynta (Atkinson), Wellings, Shen (Larisey)
