Sarah Harkes' volley against Hibernian in Celtic's 2-1 victory has been named Goal of the Month for September.

The midfielder's 20-yard strike was chosen as the best goal by Celtic icon Tom Boyd, despite tough competition from the likes of Albian Ajeti, David Turnbull, Jota, and Sarah's own teammates Liv Chance and Charlie Wellings.

Harkes’, who was delighted to have been selected, told us:

"It’s a great honour to win having been up against some of the men’s team players and some great goals from my team-mates as well. I don’t score many so it feels extra special.

"It was one of those goals where you need to get the right balance. Everyone always envisions that perfect volley and that balance – I thought, ‘Okay, this is my time to hit it!’, and so I just did.

"I was a little bit nervous about the spin of the ball, but I put my foot through it and aimed for the corner and it went there.

"It was a big game for us playing Hibs because they’d been doing really well and they were unbeaten until that point. We knew they were going to be a tough team and we needed to get three points.

"I knew we needed to score and they even came back, so then Charlie’s goal really helped us. It was an important three points so I’m glad I got the goal.

“I hope to get another goal like that this season. A midfielder’s dream is to hit volleys like that on the top of the box.”

Barry Rodden agreed with Tom’s choice and was selected at random from all those who voted for Sarah’s goal. He wins a signed Celtic top. Well done, Barry!
