Giard: I wanted to prove myself when I came on

Giard I wanted to prove myself when I came onYou can’t ask for a better dream introduction than coming off the bench and scoring almost immediately, and Josephine Giard was delighted to make an instant impact, saying she hopes it will help her case in breaking back into the starting eleven.

Giard’s strike just seconds after climbing off the bench and replacing Kat Smart was her first of two on the day as she brought her tally into double figures, with the forward now sitting on eleven. Her goals also meant she has netted in all three meetings with Forfar this side, but she explained she’s just happy to make an impact when she can.

“Obviously, I was disappointed not to start because I feel like I’ve done well in training this week, so I wanted to prove myself when I came on so I’m happy to score such a quick goal,” she began.

“I don’t know why it is against Forfar, but we worked on our plans at training on how we want to play them before all three games, so maybe it’s to do with that, but I’m happy to be the one to be there and finish.”

Celtic laid down the gauntlet ahead of a huge couple of weeks coming up as the prepare to host Glasgow City in a Scottish Cup quarter-final clash and travel to league rivals Hibs the following week. Their 7-0 victory over Forfar can only boost confidence and belief according to the 23-year-old, who admitted they were gunning for goals as they recorded their biggest league victory this season.

“I think we scored a good few in the last ten minutes and we spoke about it during the week to keep going and going in case it ends up coming down to goal difference. So we wanted to make it and it’s something we’ll also think about in the next games.

“I think it’s always good to play if you’ve just won - all you want is the next game. It’s good knowing we can score, so we need to keep that clinical finishing and take that into the next game,” she added.

Celtic play Glasgow City in the quarter final of the Scottish Cup at K-Park on Sunday 15 September in a 2pm kick-off. Adults £5, concessions £3 and under-16s free - pay at the gate.
