Chloe Warrington signs first professional contract

By Colette Carr

Celtic are delighted to announce Academy graduate Chloe Warrington has signed her first ever professional contract, keeping her in the Hoops until 2023.

The 19-year-old defender, who has been with the club since the age of seven, put pen to paper to make the move into her professional career, something she said was a dream come true.

Having already amassed 17 first appearances and established herself in Fran Alonso’s starting eleven, Warrington knows the hard work has only just began, but is pleased to see that her efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and has reaped the rewards.

“I can’t really put it into words,” she began.

“It’s what you work for from being a kid and it’s one of your dreams, so to put pen to paper last week was definitely a proud achievement in my short career so far.

“I thought I did alright last season, so it was something I was hoping for coming into this year and I definitely wanted to go pro so the hard work paid off.

“It shows the coaches and the manager notice when you put in the hard work, and you will get the reward for it. Obviously the hard work doesn’t stop now that I have my pro contract but I’ll definitely keep pushing on and on.”

Having been well-bedded into the first team setup since the beginning of 2020, Warrington is already fully aware of what is asked of the first team players at Celtic, and hopes the new structure within the club will only improve an already exciting Celtic side.

She said: “The setup is really promising and the schedule will benefit a lot of the girls in different ways, with the gym access and everyone being on the pitch in the mornings, but if we put in the hard work on the training pitch, it should come off on game days.”

And the full-back was keen to reiterate that the hard work can’t stop, as she knows there’s still plenty left up for grabs, namely a Champions League position, in her newly professional career.

“Preseason will be tough and we’ve got a tough run of fixtures coming up, so it’s important to put in the hard work and lay down the marker. We’ve got big games coming up and you want to be playing in them, so the hard work does start now,” she said.
