Celts to start season at Aberdeen before Airdrie debut against City

By Colette Carr

Celtic will begin the 2021/2022 season away to Aberdeen before hosting reigning champions Glasgow City at their new home ground of Airdrie's Penny Cars Stadium.

The season will commence on September 5 as Fran Alonso’s side travel north to take on last season’s runaway SWPL2 winners Aberdeen before another early test against Glasgow City, who the Celts pushed all the way to the season finale last term.

They will then face Motherwell, Hibs, Forfar, newly-promoted Hamilton Accies, Spartans and Hearts, before rounding off the first run of fixtures with a Glasgow Derby at home.

The exciting new league season will see its curtain call on May 15 with the third and final derby of the season, again held at the Penny Cars Stadium.

The North Lanarkshire pitch was a happy hunting ground for the Celts last year, having ran out 5-0 and 8-0 winners over hosts Motherwell, with Alonso hoping they can translate that into this season’s home form. The move to Airdrie brings an end to a six-year stay at East Kilbride’s K-Park where the Ghirls enjoyed many notable results over the seasons.

All fixtures subject to change.
