Celts leave it late against Forfar

By Colette Carr

Chloe Craig and Natalie Ross leveled the score after the Celts went two down to Farmington against the run of play, but despite having plenty of opportunities to seal a fifth victory on the bounce, they were made to settle for a point.

Just four minutes in the Celts looked certs to go 1-0 up. Ewens broke down the left to skip past the defender and play in Anita, but the Spaniard couldn't find the finish from the angle and the Hoops had to settle for a corner. Just two minutes later, Lisa Robertson picked the run of Ross out to perfection for her midfield partner to hit Summer Green in the middle, but the shot drifted wide.

Within the first twenty five minutes Celtic created chance after chance and were unlucky not to be ahead. Ewens and Anita continued to link up to test Lauren Perry in goal, before Green showed good composure, to receive with her back to goal and dip the shoulder to twist and curl a strike goalward, before Caitlin Hayes and Jodie Bartle also recorded chances.

A minute before the break, Anita went for the spectacular with an overhead kick inside the area, but it trickled just wide and the headed into the interval on level terms.

The opener came Forfar's way though just before the hour mark, despite the Celts seeing most of the ball. A ball over the top allowed London Pollard to latch on and run at the Celtic goal, before releasing her strike to take the lead.

And on the 73rd, the visitors were two to the good. In-form Donna Paterson grabbed her eighth of the season for the Angus side, as she headed in Cassie Cowper's freekick from outside the area.

Despite the setback, the Celts continued to try and find a way back into the game with Craig pulling one back on the 90th minute tapping in Robertson’s corner giving the Celts late hope. Two later, a long ball into the box from Craig who turned provider found Ross’ feet, who took a single touch before knocking it past Perry at the near post to ensure they registered the point.

Celtic found opportunities to nick all three points in the dying stages, but it wasn’t to be with attention turning to Motherwell next weekend where the first round of fixtures will draw to a close.
