Celts fire back to winning ways

Second half goals from Rachel Donaldson and Sarah Ewens sent Celtic back to winning ways, as they recorded a convincing 3-0 victory over Hearts after dominating proceedings throughout.

With a much-changed side from last weekend, Celtic persisted and persisted as they faced a dogged bottom-of-the-table Hearts side, with the breakthrough finally coming in the second half as they sealed a vital three points.

Celtic had a golden opportunity just 7 minutes in as Izzy Atkinson found herself in a prime position to open the scoring. A fantastic break for the Hoops saw Teegarden play the reverse for Tegan Bowie who found Ewens, whose fantastic flick on for Atkinson allowed the Irishwoman to drive towards goal, but her low drilled shot was denied by Tebbitt and went out for the corner.

Twelve minutes after the restart, Celtic’s patience and persistence was rewarded with the well-deserved breakthrough as Jacynta’s inviting cross was met by the darting run of Donaldson who drilled it in at the back post to break the deadlock.

Celtic grew in confidence as Donaldson looked to go again this time from distance, while Lisa Robertson’s continued deliveries just weren’t put away by a Celtic jersey.

But the hosts weren’t too wait too long for their second. Jacynta’s rasping effort from outside the area was unlucky not to go in, but ruthless Ewens made no mistake from the rebound, stabbing it home to double the advantage on the 75th.

After a dazzling performance Jacynta made way for Maria McAneny with just over ten to go, marking the teenager’s senior debut for the Celts, with the midfielder slotting in seamlessly.

And with four left to play, it was three after some wonderful movement from the Celts. The silky play started in the middle seeing Teegarden loop it over for the onrushing Bowie at the byline, who hooked it in for Ewens to nod in at the near post with ease, topping off a productive afternoon for the Celts.
