Jodie Bartle expressed her delight after netting her first Celtic goal in the 6-2 victory against Hibernian on Friday night.

Bartle, who turned 29 last Thursday, got the scoring underway at Ainslie Park in the Friday Night Football showcase with a header from a superb Natalie Ross corner.

It was a noteworthy goal for the Celtic defender, not only her first for the Hoops, but Bartle in actual fact had the ball in the net in the Glasgow Derby, which was chalked off as the referee gave a penalty before the ball crossed the line.

The English defender was delighted that she finally got off the mark for the Celts.

“Awesome feeling, buzzing to get on the scoresheet today," she told the official club website.

“Especially because of last week when I thought I had scored against Rangers.

“We had been working on our set-pieces so I think we got that one down to a T. So to score from a set-piece so early was brilliant,” she said.

Despite going in at half-time 5-1 ahead of their Edinburgh opponents, Bartle insisted the team weren’t too happy with their all round performance and it was something that needed addressing at the break.

“We weren’t happy with our first-half performance. To be honest, the first-half was one off our worst performances of the season so far," she said.

“It wasn’t good enough for us, it wasn’t the Celtic Way as we should’ve been further ahead. It isn’t how we train. We just weren’t ourselves at all.

“The scoreline was the only positive. The half-time talk was enough, we came out in the second-half and we were much better," she said.

Bartle wasn’t the only Celt to get off the mark at Ainslie Park. Lisa Robertson, who signed also earlier in the year, fittingly scored a wonderful long range effort in the first-half to open her account for the Hoops. Bartle was delighted to see her teammate grab a goal against her former club.

“We are really pleased with Lisa and she scores an amazing goal," she said.

“Really pleased because she is ex-Hibs. Absolute banger of a goal. Absolute worldie.

“That is her first goal as well, just the fashion she’s scored it in from such long range, I am sure she wouldn’t have dreamed to score her first goal in any other way.”
