Alonso: We will focus on the three points

Fran Alonso hopes his squad depth can be key to capitalising on and continuing his side’s undefeated run, as they head east this afternoon for a meeting with Hearts.

The Hoops have ran out 10-0 and 3-0 winners over the Edinburgh club this season, and the Spaniard is hoping to make it a cleansweep for the season with another victory this afternoon, with one eye placed on extending their run and snowballing their momentum.

He said: “We have a big squad and we have to utilise it because it was a very demanding game on Wednesday so we will see some changes in the team. The ambition will be to try to get all three points though for sure - we’ve got 19 out of the last 21 possible points which is a fantastic run for us.

“We have very good memories of Hearts - the last time we played there it was our highest score of the season, but it’s almost impossible to repeat that, so we will concentrate on getting the three points. We beat them 3-0 at home last month, but they made things difficult for us so we will review the game together and see what we can do better, but try to repeat that great performance.”

The quick turnaround may present new challenges for the coaching staff as they find their preparation time cut short, but it does also bring it’s benefits. Little over a month has passed since the Hoops last played Hearts, leaving the Edinburgh side’s playbook fresh in the memory for Alonso and his staff, buying time in a season that’s affording so little of it right now.

“You don’t have time to do a lot of tactical changes, but I think they will be pretty much the same, so tactically we can adjust better, but they are a much improved side from when we played them the first time and they’ll make it difficult for us,” the manager said.
